Carpenter/Skilled Labourer

Job Description

Perform construction and maintenance tasks including measuring, cutting, and assembling materials. Layout and install trim. Repair and maintain existing structures. Work within a team or independently as required

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Report to the Carpentry – Production Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches
• Measure, cut, and shape various materials using tools
• Construct and install building frameworks, structures and fixtures
• Repair damaged structures
• Maintain a safe and organized worksite, following safety procedures and building regulations
• Perform finish carpentry
• Communicate professionally with clients and team members

Qualifications:

Education/Training

• High School Diploma (or equivalent)
• Courses in mechanical drawing and blueprint reading are considered helpful
• Valid Working at Heights Certification (Ontario), WHMIS, Mandatory Worker Training and material handling training would be an asset

Experience

3 – 5 years working as a carpenter/skilled labourer

Availability

Must be available to work Monday to Friday 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Weekends as needed.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

Technical skills:

• Knowledge of carpentry techniques, construction methods, and materials
• proficiency with tools
• and the ability to read technical documents and blueprints would be considered an asset

Physical requirements:

• MUST be in good physical condition with stamina
• dexterity and the ability to stand, climb, and lift heavy objects

Soft skills:

• Strong problem solving
• attention to detail
• ability to work independently and as part of a team
• good communication skills
• flexibility to work in various conditions
