Job Description

Looking for a year-round job that works around your schedule, builds valuable career skills and is a fun way to meet new people?  Want to work with a team, teach the public and improve your physical fitness?  Consider becoming a Lifeguard/Instructor!  We’re looking for people to join our team, especially those that are available for regular weekday daytime shifts or available throughout the summer months!  You will benefit from opportunities for growth and development while building your leadership and customer service skills.

Lifeguard/Instructors are more than great swimmers – they are water rescue professionals continuously training in emergency care.  They prevent accidents and educate the public about the hazards and risks associated with aquatic activities and how to be safe around water.

Candidates that possess NLS certification and are willing to obtain Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor and/or Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor within the first 3 months of employment are encouraged to apply.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Recreation Services Manager, Lifeguard/Instructors are responsible for monitoring the activities of swimmers in the pool and on the deck to prevent accidents as mandated by the Lifesaving Society of Ontario.  Lifeguard/instructors provide assistance in the event of emergencies and participate in staff training sessions. Main duties and responsibilities are in the area of lifeguard functions, instruction, other pool functions, and maintenance functions.

Experienced Lifeguard/Instructors may be trained to become Head Lifeguard/Instructors who have responsibility for assisting in the preparation, execution, and supervision of all aquatic-related programs. In the absence of the Manager and Aquatics Coordinator, the Head Lifeguard is responsible for the direct supervision of the aquatics team. The Head Lifeguard/Instructor will also perform regular lifeguarding and instructional duties. Main duties and responsibilities are in the areas of lifeguard functions, instruction, other pool functions and maintenance functions.
