Position Overview:

  • Reporting to the Parks and Trails Lead Hand, the Parks & Trails Summer Student is responsible for assisting with day-to-day outdoor maintenance and ensuring that the parks, trails, and grounds amenities of the Town are well kept, including Town Hall and its grounds, as well as other areas around the community that are under the umbrella of Council and the Town of The Blue Mountains.
  • General landscaping, maintenance and grass cutting of all municipal park sites, sports fields, and cemeteries, including municipal walkway system and various municipal institutional sites.
  • As assigned perform daily bathroom checks and cleaning of bathroom facilities in various locations.
  • As assigned maintain the floral displays on municipal property and perform general vegetation maintenance of Town trails.

  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
    Currently enrolled in high school or post-secondary program.
  • Minimum 1 year of work experience in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, follow and carry out instructions.
  • Proven communication skills to respond to general information requests from internal and external clients.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to deal with staff and to provide clear information.
  • Ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and statutory holidays as per schedule and in inclement weather.
  • Knowledgeable of the operation and maintenance of powered equipment such as lawnmowers, and small hand tools.
  • Required to move, lift, carry, pull, and place objects up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Required to stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire shift.
  • Required to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, and pulling.
  • Required to move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces.
  • Valid Standard first Aid and CPR/AED Certificate preferred.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license.
