Work Hours:

This position is approximately 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with the flexibility to work outside of regular office hours as needed. This is a full-time role working primarily from the Collingwood office. There is the potential to work a few days a week from home, but candidates must be local to the area and attend in-office meetings as needed. The candidate must have a dedicated workspace in their home to be considered for any remote work from home days.
 

Wage:

In addition to a competitive wage and a comprehensive health benefit plan, we offer Fridays off during the summer from July to September. We are closed between Christmas and New Year’s, and we provide professional development and career advancement opportunities.

Job Description

We are currently seeking an experienced Staff Accountant, reporting to the Managing Director, Cathie Hunt, CPA, CGA.  This role will be working with our team out of our Collingwood office located at 10126 Highway 26 East, Unit #2. The Staff Accountant’s responsibilities include maintaining financial records and reports, performing account reconciliations, preparing year-end financial statements, and tax planning. Dedicated team players with strong work ethics will have the potential for increased responsibilities and personal growth.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Participate in the efficient preparation and completion of working papers, financial statements, and corporate tax returns for compilation engagements, according to firm and regulatory standards for clients in various businesses.
  • Effective preparation and completion of tax assignments, including preparation of tax returns (T1, T2s, T4s, T5s, HST), and to ensure queries are cleared and deadlines are met.
  • Examining tax records to ensure all opportunities for tax savings are identified.
  • Review files prepared by other staff members.
  • Preparation and review of HST returns.
  • Preparation of other types of returns such as T5013, T5018.
  • Preparation of trust returns (T3.)
  • Review accounting and year-end accounting for our clients using CaseWare.
  • Actively participate in the adoption of digital tools and strategies to drive an innovative workplace.
  • Provide daily check-ins with your leader.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Accounting or Finance is highly regarded.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working in a public accounting firm is a must.
  • Sound working knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Completed or working toward a CPA designation.
  • Proficiency with the use of software, such as Sage, QuickBooks, Profile, Tax Prep, CaseWare and Jazz-it.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly analytical and accurate, attention to detail is critical to this role.
  • Demonstrated team-building skills.
  • A strong work ethic, and you thrive on challenges.
  • Strong time-management abilities and self-motivation to work independently in a high-volume work environment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively and efficiently.
  • Tech-savvy with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues as they come up.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and online meeting technology (e.g., Zoom, go-to meetings).
