Job Description

Isowater is currently seeking a Senior Process Engineer, reporting to Chief Technology Officer.

This role is based out of the Isowater office located at 40 Sandford Fleming Road, Collingwood, ON L9Y 4V7.

Responsibilities for this position include:

Leading process engineering design efforts on projects within the Engineering department to fulfill safety standards, environmental requirements, and plant/customer satisfactions. Tasks include:

  • Producing heat and material balances, process flow diagrams (“PFD”)
  • Preparing process and instrumentation drawings (“P&ID”)
  • Calculating equipment and piping sizing
  • Producing equipment specifications and tender documents
  • Acting as the process subject matter expert, you will participate in process hazard analysis (“PHA”)
  • Providing process information and sizing information for instrumentation and prepare interlock logic diagrams
  • Identifying and leading program for safe equipment operating limits including alarms and trips
  • Preparing operating manuals and technical reports
  • Support commissioning and start-up activities of process and mechanical systems
  • Participating and contributing to equipment 3D model reviews, piping design reviews, and building plan layout reviews
  • Providing technical advisory, consultation and process and equipment solutions the stakeholders and external customers
  • Mentoring junior engineers, including participating and sometimes leading performance reviews
  • Prepare capital authorization requests to improve manufacturing costs, reliability, safety, and environmental systems
  • Act as point of contact for any third-party engineering consultant initiatives
  • Participating in Scientific Research and Development Tax Credit(“SR&ED”) reporting
  • This role may evolve to include production planning
 

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering, or Applied Sciences
  • Licensed by a Professional Engineering Association (in Canada) is required. Member of Professional Engineers of Ontario is preferred
  • Minimum 10 years process engineering design, experience in chemical industry is preferred
  • Experience with Process Safety Management programs, standard and regulations
  • Experience with process engineering design sizing and validating equipment such as pipes, pumps, tanks, heaters, filters, crystallizers, fans, compressors, packed columns, absorption units, electrolysis equipment, etc.
  • Experience with instrumentation sizing such as control valve and pressure safety device
  • Experience preparing heat and mass balance, process improvement and optimization
  • Commissioning and/or plant operation experience
  • Knowledge of the chemical industry
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Flexibility to take on stretch assignments
  • Experienced in Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

The following would be considered strong assets:

  • Experience with scaling of counterflow process
  • Understanding of the statistical process control is an asset
  • Experience with PGM and transition metal catalysis
