With significantly expanding operations and community partnerships, we are seeking a Senior Manager, Environmental Program for this exceptional charitable organization.

The Senior Manager will report to the Director of Operations and will be responsible to lead the Environmental Water team in the development, implementation, and expansion of the Water First Environmental Certification program as well as our Fee for Service programming.  This will be done in close collaboration with Water First leadership, our Indigenous Advisory Council, and Indigenous community partners across Canada. This role will manage all aspects of the Environmental Program and related projects to ensure the overall outcomes are aligned to and support Water First’s strategic direction.

Responsibilities for this position include:

Program Management

• Collaborate with the Director of Operations and Director of Finance to create program systems, as well as workflow and project management processes for a growing environmental program.
• Create and implement annual work plans that align with the department’s existing 3-year plan.
• Contribute to the next iteration of the 3-year planning process, including creating program objectives, goals and KPIs as well as a program budget.
• Develop and oversee activities that foster a positive, vibrant, collaborative, and effective organization culture.
• Provide support and oversight for project leads (remote and in-person) to develop and manage project milestones, timelines, and training activities.
• Oversee the hiring, training, and support of new staff.
• Oversee employee performance while integrating individual and organizational goals.
• Participate in senior management meetings and collaborate with multiple departments to work towards organizational goals.
• Lead department administrative tasks and conduct regular department meetings.
• Review, approve and manage department budgets, major purchasing, and overall expenses.
• Review and approve department reporting to internal and external audiences.

Program Development

• Collaborate with the Scientific Director and Training Manager to continue developing the Environmental Certification program.
• Expand the Environmental Certification program, build local community relationships, and identify new community partners, including Tribal Councils and/or individual communities.
• Refine and grow Water First’s fee-for-service project model.
• Networking (online and in person) and attending relevant conferences & events.
• Public and community relations, presentations and other public speaking engagements as needed.

Qualifications:

• A related college diploma, undergraduate degree in an environmental field, or graduate degree preferred, with extensive management experience in a related field.
• Ten to fifteen years of experience in a complex program management role.
• Experience in cross cultural collaborations with Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations.
• Demonstrated success managing a large team delivering multiple technical projects with diverse outcomes.
• Strong project management skills, as proven by a track record of involvement with complex, multifaceted projects.
• Proficient in using technology as a management reporting tool and willingness to learn new systems if needed.
• Experience working with a high-performance, collaborative, constructive peer group.
• Strength in hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams, while empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility and performance.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Proven ability to foster a positive, collaborative team environment.
• Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of Water First.
• Regular access to a vehicle and ability to travel to northern Indigenous communities 10%-15% of the time.
