Job Title:

Environmental Programs Assistant (Summer Student Contract)

Work Hours:

Monday to Friday – 8:30AM – 4:30PM


$20 per hour

Anticipated Start Date:

June 20, 2022 (some flexibility can be offered) 


This role can be a remote work-from-home position, but candidates must be available to travel to the Creemore, Ontario office located at 178 Mill St., Unit D as needed.

Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Programs Assistant to aid in the planning and delivery of Water First’s various environmental water science training activities, as well as supporting field and travel logistics. This is an 8-week, full-time, hourly contract position for the period June 20 to August 12, 2022.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Assist in preparation and organization of materials, supplies, equipment, and logistics.
  • Support the delivery of training in the field and online using google classroom.
  • Assist in documenting field and training activities and contribute to report writing.
  • Research leads and contacts to identify opportunities for program expansion.
  • Organize and summarize feedback from program participants.
  • Assist in the creation of content for social media, testimonials, and related program communication materials/tools.


This position is being offered through the Youth Summer Jobs Program. To be eligible, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada per relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. International participants are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

  • Preference for an educational background in environmental/water related studies.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills and strict attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills: experience with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and professional e-mail techniques.
  • Commitment to environmental values.
  • The ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Resourceful and able to take initiative in a changing workplace environment.
  • Must be able to perform a variety of physically demanding tasks including moving display materials and boxes.
  • An interest in environmental and water science and working in collaboration with Indigenous communities.
  • You are creative, have a can-do attitude, and you will approach this role with a passion for helping others.
  • Experience with water testing equipment/tools would be considered an asset.
