Arboretum Grounds Person

The Collingwood Horticultural Society/Garden Club is looking for a responsible and motivated self starter to be the Grounds Person in the Collingwood Arboretum this coming season.

Main Jobs in the Arboretum under the direction of the Collingwood Garden Club Arboretum Manager

• Watering the trees, shrubs and gardens (and sometimes hauling long heavy lengths of hose);
• Trimming grass and weeds around trees and benches after grass is cut;
• Planting and caring for flowers in the gardens in the Arboretum;
• Making sure the Arboretum is welcoming to our visitors by picking up litter,
• Cleaning benches and dedication plaques,
• Ensuring the Arboretum is a safe space for all,
• Working with CGC volunteers, professional arborists and Town of Collingwood
• Installing dedication plaques and posts;
• Assessing and fixing broken park elements’ and reporting vandalism if it occurs.

Terms of Employment

• This is a contract position with the Collingwood Horticultural Society;
• Successful applicant must possess an up-to-date Vulnerable Sector Records Check;
• Experience in landscaping and/or parks management an asset
• Experience working with power tools an asset
• This is a Part-time seasonal position – up to approximately 18 hours per week, May 11 through October 2, with possibility for minor extension
• Successful candidate must provide own green patch work boots and gloves;
• Salary commensurate with experience, up to $24.00 per hour
• Salary and expense reimbursement, monthly;

Qualifications:

• Responsible self-starter
• Possess up-to-date Vulnerable Sector Records Check
• Experience in landscaping and/or parks management an asset
• Physically fit
